Guests Discuss 'Flight' on This Month's D4K

— Airs Tuesday, December 13, at 2:00/1:00 p.m. MT/PT

An airplane must overcome four physical forces to fly — so do birds, bats, bugs and anything else that wants to soar. What are these forces? Why does the shape of a wing make a difference in flight? Why are birds especially built to fly?

On this month's D4K host Joan Cartan-Hansen and her guests will answer questions about flight. The live show airs Tuesday, December 13, at 2:00/1:00 p.m. MT/PT.

Cartan-Hansen's guests are Frank Lester, education coordinator for the Aeronautics Division of the Idaho Transportation Department, and pilot Lori MacNichol.

Students can watch the show over the air or on the D4K website. They can send questions through email to D4K@idahoptv.org, fax them in before the show to (208) 373-7245, or call in live during the program to (800) 973-9800. Shortly after the show, students can view a Web-only video with Lester and MacNichol answering questions that were not part of the on-air broadcast.

The D4K website (idahoptv.org/D4K) provides educational materials throughout the season. Students can access more information and facts about each topic, links, reading lists, a glossary, podcasts of programs, video shorts, full episodes and special D4K Web-exclusive programming.
